WH FFA grows closer together with annual retreat

On July 11, the 2023-24 West Holmes High School FFA officer team met at the high school to kick off the annual officer retreat.
The team was responsible for preparing meals during the trip on a $150 budget for the next four meals. They prepared a menu and list of ingredients needed in order to cook the meals for the next two days. They then went to Rodhe’s and got the supplies they needed and were cents under the budget provided.
Once they had returned, officers Garrett Fowler and Alex Pringle made everyone chicken quesadillas. Before departing for officer photographs, the team worked on their passion projects with facilitator Lucy Baumbauer, as well as wrote down some questions to ask at the campfire later. The team also worked on ideas for activities for the National Chapter Award, a summary of the chapter’s best activities in the year.
The officers changed into official dress and headed to Honey Run Falls for photos. Then the team went to their cabin in Mohican and discussed people who were leaders in their lives and played a game that taught them how hard it is to balance all the things in their lives and ways to make it easier.
Officers Maren Drzazga and Maison Carter made flatbread pizza for dinner. After dinner the team sat around the campfire and talked about good things and bad things of the past year, goals they have for themselves and the chapter, things they need to change, and things they need to add or take away and also answered some questions.
The following morning officers Andi Schuch and Quentin Vehrs prepared eggs, sausages and pancakes for breakfast. After breakfast the team discussed some calendar events and then returned to the high school. Once the group returned to the high school, they were served lunch by a crew who was working in the high school, and officers Wyatt Myers and Claire Drzazga would later make BLTs.
After lunch was over, the officer team wrapped up the officer retreat by deciding on shirt designs, cleaning up the ag room and scheduling events for the year.
Thanks to The Mohicans for the use of the cabin and to Lucy Baumbauer for sharing her expertise.
Annual hog roast
a success
On Sunday, July 16, the West Holmes FFA Chapter held its annual FFA hog roast. This year the hog roast was held at Lake Buckhorn. Members and guests were able to play games such as cornhole and volleyball and also swim in the lake. Many parents, members, supporters and incoming members attended. The pulled pork was prepared by Ben Hipp, and members brought sides, salads and desserts. Thanks to all who attended.
