West Holmes Spring Fun Event March 27 at WHHS

Easter can mean many different things to many people, but one common thing that almost always ties it together is spending time with family, which is exactly what one upcoming event hopes to accomplish.

The West Holmes Spring Fun Event is slated for March 27 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at West Holmes High School commons area, where area children ages preschool through third grade are invited to participate in an event packed with plenty of enjoyable Easter activities that is free to the public.

With the theme squarely focused on Easter, many of the activities and games are centered around the holiday and help set a fun tone for the whole family.

An Easter egg hunt, crafts, games, prizes and more await the kids who participate, but this free event is designed to be more than simply an hour of festivities for the children.

Hosted by the West Holmes High School Family, Career & Community Leaders of America, coordinator Tes Kinsey said the idea is to have parents and their young children enjoy doing the activities together.

“We definitely try to create an event that is fun for the kids, but one of our main objectives is to create a time when parents can do some fun activities with their kids,” Kinsey said. “We will run the different games and activities and help kids through them, but our hope is that the parents will sit down with them and do a craft or play a game. Being connected with their children is something that is extremely important, and this event is designed to be a time when they can put the phones and games down and really focus their attention on themselves as a family.”

FCCLA’s mission is to promote personal growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and career preparation.

While FCCLA is a nationally recognized organization, Kinsey said West Holmes remains committed to serving the community.

Kinsey said this particular event continues to gain steam and has grown nicely over the past several years, with plenty of area adults and teenage volunteers helping to operate the activities,

Kinsey said they are requesting that parents call into the high school and preregister their children to reserve a spot so the FCCLA committee can get a better grasp on the materials they need to fulfill what should be an exciting and enjoyable day for the kids.

Families can preregister simply by calling the high school office at 330-674-6085 and noting how many people will be attending by Tuesday, March 26.
