With Thanksgiving over and Christmas on the horizon, the Wayne County Care Center is filled with gratitude and togetherness.

“We truly care for our residents,” Interim Director of Nursing Lindsey Flack said. “We take care of those who are not able to care for themselves, for those whose family has passed away and they are alone, and those that have family that are unable to care for them. We welcome them with open arms as our own family. Staff members here know each resident and their exact needs.”

The care center staff has stepped up for the residents.

“Our activities director started an Adopt-a-Resident program for the holidays, and all the spots are almost filled to adopt our residents,” Flack said. “The holidays tug at our heartstrings. No one will go without a Christmas present; our staff makes sure of that.”

At the recent Harvest Meal, where care center staff served residents and their families, Activities Director Sarah Koval explained the residents’ need for joy and connection during the holiday season and that each resident comes with their own history that defines their needs.

“We want to make our residents happy,” Koval said. “Some are here that do not have any family at all. Just being able to spend some time together makes residents overjoyed. The Harvest Meal is only the beginning. We have a lot planned, and they are really looking forward to everything.”

According to Koval, the center’s must-do activities include reindeer games, Christmas Family Feud, baking cookies and the annual snowball fight.

“Seeing Christmas lights is also high on their list,” Koval said. “We usually see the ones in Wooster and Medina.”
