The Waterford Players, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing performing arts opportunities to Southern Tuscarawas County, announced their latest project, a teen talent show for age 12-18. The performers can be from anywhere and do not have to reside in Tuscarawas County.

Auditions will be held Friday, May 31 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 1 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Emmaus Chapel, 221 S. Main St., Tuscarawas. To select a time, audition sign-ups are available on the group’s Facebook page, but walk-ins are welcome. If signing up, online participants will receive an email confirmation of the date and time they selected.

“This is our first teen-geared performance that we’re putting on,” said Malarie Chineal, who serves as secretary of the Waterford Players. “We know Tuscarawas County has a lot of amazing, talented teenagers and young adults, and we’re just really excited to be able to put this show on.”

The group has already put together a number of successful programs this year and has more programs already planned through December.

The Green Music Show, which was performed twice in March, was a kickoff to the rest of the year.

“It went really well, and that was our first big event. It had a great turnout,” Chineal said. “It was great to have the community be a part of that.”

The Green Music Show was focused on folk and Irish music, and most of the performers were adults, so the group decided to move forward with a show just for teens.

The Waterford Players’ mission is to bring the performing arts to the southern part of Tuscarawas County.

“It takes a village to make things happen,” Chineal said.

Chineal encouraged anyone age 12-18 to attend an audition for the teen talent show.

“We are looking for it all — singers, musicians, dancers, comedy acts, anything,” Chineal said.

Acts will be limited. If performing music, acts will be limited to three to four minutes. For others who might be doing a comedy act, skit or magic, the limit is 10 minutes.

The actual teen talent show will be sometime at the end of June. The group is currently waiting for confirmation, but it will take place at The Community Center of Southern Tuscarawas in Port Washington. The information will be announced on the Waterford Players Facebook page.

The organization is trying to plan activities in many areas of Southern Tuscarawas County throughout the year.

“This is our first official year of being an organization, and we just became an LLC, so we’re still trying to get our name out there,” Chineal said.

The group would eventually like to have their own facility to use as a performing arts center for theater shows and more.

Upcoming events include a Community Jam Session at Fry’s Valley Moravian Church on June 7, July 5 and Aug. 2, which will include food, music, a bonfire and a playground for children; a hymn sing on June 9; a Community Worship Night on June 21 at Rush Christian School; a music theory workshop on July 20; a how-to-audition workshop on July 21; a dance night on Aug. 20; and there are two remaining line dance lesson dates this month.
