The Twin City Fall Festival will go on, thanks to the support of donors. Organizer Kathy Allen had initially canceled the festival when faced with finding additional funding to pay a fee and cover insurance costs. She was relieved when supporters covered the extra funding needed after Uhrichsville Council added requirements to hold an event in the city.

Allen was surprised when she received a call from an employee at the Uhrichsville Mayor’s Office saying a person had donated the cost of the permit.

“Then two other people came in and donated for the insurance,” Allen said. “It would have taken all the money I had for those two items because I only get a handful of sponsors to pay for the bigger things, like the Porta Johns and the pumpkins and the Character Express.”

This is the 12th year for the festival, which is always held on the second Saturday in October.

The event will be held Oct. 12 in downtown Uhrichsville on East Third Street. A highlight of the festival is a free pumpkin for each child in attendance while supplies last. The characters J.J. and Bluey will make an appearance at the festival from 1-3 p.m.

Food vendors at the festival include Messdad’s food truck and Sonder and Thyme Café, a coffee and hot chocolate drink vendor.

Music will be provided by disc jockey Terry Sutton.

“His late wife Lori Sutton helped with the festival, and he continues to do that for her,” Allen said. “Terry said he has to do it because that’s what Lori would want him to be doing.”

Ralph Allen helps with getting the pumpkins, trash and making sure everything is going smoothly at the event. Kathy Allen also is thankful for friends who help the day of the event.

A variety of crafters and vendors will set up for the event. Some of the vendors include Paparazzi, Tupperware, Pure Romance, Scentsy, Color Street Nails, Pampered Chef and Bomb Jewelry Party.

Bragging rights, a cash prize, and a chef’s apron and hat will be given to the winners of the annual chili cook-off. There are two categories in the cook-off: regular and spicy, although no extreme spicy heat oils are allowed. Participants must bring their chili in a slow cooker with their name on the bottom.

The chef aprons are printed with the words Chili Cook-Off Champion and first, second or third place, as are the chef hats.

A pie competition will be held with two categories: fruit and cream. Each pie crust and filling must be made from scratch. Participants should put a label with their name and phone number on the bottom of the pan.

The cooking competitions are for amateur cooks only. For more information on the competitions and prizes, visit Twin City Fall Festival on Facebook at www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100069245558303.

In addition to individual sponsors, business and organization sponsors include Uhrichsville Moose Lodge 740, Fab Ohio Inc., R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Ohio Bridge Stripping Inc., Bloom’s Printing and Design, and First Federal Community Bank.

A car show will be held in conjunction with the fall festival in front of the Family Dollar store. There is no preregistration for the event, which is being organized by Jamie Randolph and Angie Robinson. All proceeds from the car show will be donated to Tuscarawas County Special Olympics. Special Olympics athletes will judge the event.

Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon, judging will be from noon to 2 p.m. and awards will be given at 3 p.m. Trophy categories include car, truck, motorcycle, semi (cab only), and two new categories this year, Jeep and street legal alternative, which includes golf carts and other small vehicles. There also will be an award for grand prize overall. The first 50 registered get a dash plaque.

The car show will include goodie bags, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing.
