Tuscarawas County Board of DD welcomes New Phila native as community relations/special projects coordinator

The Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities recently hired Nate Kamban of New Philadelphia as the community relations/special project coordinator. In this capacity, Kamban is responsible for developing and implementing the public and community relations strategies for the Board.

After graduating from New Philadelphia High School (‘05), Kamban earned bachelor's degrees in International Studies and French from the University of Mount Union. He also obtained a master's degree in International Development from the University of Pittsburgh. Before returning to the area, Kamban managed a disability-focused community development project in several African countries with support from Messiah College, World Vision and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. It was the objective of this project to design and fabricate low-cost assistive technologies to facilitate access to clean water and sanitation facilities, such as hand-pumps and latrines for persons with disabilities. Kamban said: “In order to complete this project successfully, community support and buy-in was essential. We developed a series of promotional tools such as brochures, videos, skits and sporting events to introduce the topic of disability inclusion in our target communities. ” Kamban further expressed, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to partner with persons with disabilities and community members here in my own community.”

Tuscarawas Board of DD Superintendent Natalie Lupi said, “Nate's expertise, energy and positive enthusiasm make him an excellent addition to our team. His international exposure and local connection will allow him to successfully lead our public and community relations programming as the agency moves forward.”

Kamban is joined in New Philadelphia by his wife, Amanda Kamban (Robinson), a 2004 graduate of Claymont High School, and their two children Lyla and Tytus.
