‘Trumpet in the Land’ to open in June

On Friday, June 21 at 8:30 p.m., “Trumpet in the Land” will celebrate its 55th season opener by offering $10 tickets for the outdoor drama’s opening night.
Tickets will be available at the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, 124 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, beginning May 23 at 4 p.m. during the CVB’s open house. The CVB also will offer free children tickets for the drama. The cost for those who do not purchase opening night tickets in advance is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, $18 for youth age 13-17, and $10 for children age 12 and under.
“Trumpet in the Land,” full of history, songs and dances, retells the story of Ohio’s first settlement Schoenbrunn, the massacre at Gnadenhutten and the battle between the Americas. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green’s script engulfs patrons as history unfolds before their eyes.
According to Trumpet in the Land general manager Margaret Bonamico, the 2024 season will not only celebrate the outdoor drama’s 55th anniversary, but also will serve as a tribute to Mrs. Doris J. Kimble, a longtime benefactor to the organization.
“We are grateful to Mrs. Kimble for her loyalty and friendship to Trumpet in the Land,” Bonamico said.
A presentation of gratitude and respect to Kimble will take place at 8:15 p.m. on stage prior to the opening night performance.
