Sugarcreek council votes for equipment to be replaced

At Monday’s Sugarcreek Council meeting, council member Matt Miller, chairman of the streets, water and sewer committee, met prior to the meeting to plan for equipment replacement. Council agreed to purchase a new Case backhoe using the current backhoe and loader as trade-ins at a cost of $101,326.

“Lands, buildings, sidewalks and insurance committee has been working with the fire department on possible improvement to the fire station. After talking with ECOBA, formal plans will need drawn up and permits obtained,” council member Nate Wagler said.

Wagler will continue to work with the fire chief, mayor and village administration to get costs for the project.

“We have been making traffic stops with commercial vehicles running the red lights in the village. As soon as the police presence is gone, the problem is back,” Police Chief Kevin Kaser said.

Council member Jason Hamsher made the inquiry to Kaser. Hamsher reminded residents and visitors that a red light means stop.

Council also did the following:

—Heard leaves will continue to be picked up Mondays. Leaves should be in tied garbage bags and placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday. No commercial dumping is permitted.

—Approved Aaron Tango to put a parking lot behind the former K&R Surplus store on Ohio 39. Tango wants to also maintain the alley behind the business. Council also approved Tango to use the end of Yoder Avenue, owned by the village, to access a field to construct an all-purpose building.

—Passed an ordinance to appoint a village solicitor for 2025-26.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at 410 S. Broadway in Sugarcreek.
