Students qualify for national leadership conference

Three Buckeye Career Center Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members have qualified for the FCCLA National Leadership Conference after taking top honors at the state competition April 25-26. All qualifying students from BCC are enrolled in the teaching professions program.
Madison Humphreys of Dover took silver in interpersonal communications while the team of Olivia Andrews of Dover and Madison Powell of Strasburg earned a silver in professional presentation and also qualified for nationals.
In addition, teaching professions instructor Melissa Long has been named an FCCLA master adviser. This commendation recognizes advisers who have demonstrated outstanding success in advising a chapter for more than three years. It also recognizes efforts to promote the organization while operating a co-curricular chapter with a balanced program of work. Long has been employed at BCC for 21 years and has taught teaching professions for 17 of those years.
BCC Assistant Principal Julie Brinkman also was honored at the state conference with an Honorary Membership Award for her service to FCCLA over the years. Brinkman is in her 22nd year at Buckeye Career Center.
The national qualifiers will travel to Seattle, Washington for the National FCCLA Leadership Conference June 29 through July 3.
