Students’ love for community shown through service

Students and staff at Immaculate Conception learn and practice the importance of love for their community. They show it through the many service projects they participate in throughout the school year.
Collecting items for the Twin City Christian Service Center/Food Pantry is just one of the projects the students participate in.
Students in pre-k and third grade made ornaments and helped decorate the community tree sponsored by First Federal Bank in Uhrichsville. The preschoolers made ornaments and decorated the First National Bank in Dennison’s tree, and the ornaments were available for customers to take home. The fifth-graders helped sort and load cars full of gifts for local children in need.
The preschool and pre-k kids decorated their classroom tree with more than 300 items to keep those in need stay warm this winter.
Earlier in the school year, preschool and pre-k kids sent almost 400 cards to veterans and currently serving military persons, and the entire school hosted a luncheon for local military personnel. The sixth-grade class sponsored St. Michael’s Day, a day to honor local first responders, the military and all community helpers. St. Michael is the patron saint of first responders, the military and all helpers.
The students and staff also raised money and supported the students of Tusky Valley, Carrollton and BCC during their time of tragedy. The students also participated in local events like Light Up Dennison, the Twin City Parade and the Chamber of Commerce 12 Days of Christmas.
“We are blessed to have our school located in a community that cares about and supports all the children of that community,” said Ronna Coventry, teacher. “It is great to be able to teach the children the importance of giving back and taking care of those less fortunate. It is an even bigger blessing to have so many community people and businesses that invite and participate right alongside the children, acting as great role models for them.”
