Wayne Center for the Arts has launched its spring session with a lineup of new classes and old favorites. Catering to students of all ages, the range of classes includes workshops in visual arts, clay, dance, music and theater. To explore the full list of classes, individuals can visit www.WayneArtsCenter.org, where detailed information and registration options are available.
Children
For kids interested in art of all kinds, WCA offers a variety of classes that explore different media. These classes emphasize expressing yourself through age-appropriate art projects. For preschoolers, Jenny Kelly-Masloski teaches Doodle Buggies (age 1.5-3) and Preschool Picassos (age 3-5). Older kids can participate in Artist Playground (age 6-9) and Artist Toolbox (age 10-13).
Teens
Teens can put pen to paper too. New instructor Cillian Martin will offer Teen Writers’ Sci-fi/Fantasy Circle. This online class will discuss what makes a story sci-fi or fantasy and work with students to develop their stories through creative writing prompts.
In music instructor Mary Deauclaire will lead a class in jazz appreciation called Diggin into Jazz. Students will dig deep into the lives and times of renowned jazzers and their music, using stories and legends, archival recordings, videos, and photos. The class will discuss what they hear and find ways to listen and appreciate jazz more broadly. This class is offered for age 16 and up.
Adults
Adults can participate in the new Creative Writing Class. Tailored for writers of all levels, this course will offer hands-on exercises in fiction, nonfiction and poetry. Writers also can join the Writers’ Circle for a supportive community to foster growth as a storyteller.
