Share-A-Christmas trees offer chance to give

Every holiday season those who have been blessed are afforded a chance to share those blessings with others in Holmes County who are facing challenging times through Holmes County Share-A-Christmas.
The opening opportunity was put in place this past weekend when volunteers placed several SAC giving trees around Holmes County, and now the chance to share a blessing with a local family is as easy as pulling a tag off a Christmas tree, purchasing a few items and putting together a gift that will put smiles on the faces of children throughout the area.
The Holmes County Share-A-Christmas giving trees in German Village in Berlin, Jitter’s Café in Millersburg and the Millersburg Walmart are now up and will eventually help fulfill a Christmas wish for children around the county involved in the SAC season of giving.
On Saturday, Nov. 9, SAC volunteer Andrea Povick was busy assembling the décor for the SAC giving tree in German Village. She said she was excited to get the project started, knowing the impact it is going to make on children throughout Holmes County.
“This is such a neat way to give back,” Povick said. “It’s such an exciting time of the year, and so many people who have been blessed in our community are always so willing to give back to others during this time that it is truly touching.”
Each tag on the tree is one child’s wish list to Santa, listing a present they would really love to receive for Christmas, be it a Miss Rachel Speak & Sing animated doll, a bicycle, an 8WD remote control stunt car, Legos, a Coo&Koo Charm Bracelet kit or a new baseball glove.
The public is then invited to pull off a tag or two, purchase the requested gift, wrap it and bring it back to the giving tree, where it will be picked up and delivered to children throughout Holmes County on distribution day in early December.
Every gift purchased stays in Holmes County, where SAC committee members have assembled a list of families who have signed up to participate in this season of giving.
“I love that it is geared toward giving to the children,” Povick said. “It’s an easy way to reach out into our community and make a lasting impact on a child’s life, and it is so simple to do. This is a perfect way for people to give back who might be looking for a way to do so. People can be really creative in adding to the requested gift that each child has placed on the tree.”
While the children will be the ultimate recipients of these acts of kindness, each person who gives will be blessed through experiencing the joy of picking a tag, finding the perfect gift, putting their own touches on any additional gifts and wrapping the gifts to be presented to each child through Share-A-Christmas, knowing they are going to put joy in the hearts of each child.
Once a tag is taken off one of the trees and the gifts are purchased and wrapped, they may be returned to any of the participating locations for distribution.
