Published Modified

During the May 9 meeting of its board of directors, the Tuscarawas Society for Children & Adults Inc., better known as the Rainbow Connection, awarded local individuals and organizations $51,153.55 in aid.

Assistance includes $6,853.55 in medical bills, $3,800 in mobility scooters and $4,500 in hearing aid expenses to Tuscarawas County residents and $36,000 in handicap playground equipment to Starlight School.

Starlight School is located in New Philadelphia and serves students from all Tuscarawas County school districts who have disabilities including autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, emotional disturbances and other developmental disabilities.

The new Starlight School playground will address the lack of accessible surfacing, anti-climb fencing and sensory-friendly play structures for all ages. The remainder of the project is funded by Tuscarawas County Board of Developmental Disabilities and donor support to The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

The Rainbow Connection is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, independent health charity dedicated to meeting the needs of disadvantaged and disabled residents of Tuscarawas County with medical expenses like hearing aids, medical alert devices, medical and dental bills, long-term and emergency prescriptions, handicapped equipment and medical devices, and travel and lodging expenses for those traveling for medical care or treatment. Since raising $328,000 during its March 2024 telethon, the nonprofit has already awarded Tuscarawas County organizations and individuals with more than $106,000 in aid.
