Port Washington to issue registration stickers for golf carts

Port Washington residents who wish to drive golf carts or side-by-sides on village streets will need to register them with the village. Police Chief Rocky Dusenberry told village council at the Sept. 3 meeting that registration stickers will be issued to cart owners once the vehicle has been inspected and approved for road travel by the police department.

Dusenberry also informed council he visited a resident who was growing marijuana plants, and the plants are required to be secured in a facility such as a greenhouse. According to Dusenberry, even though recreational marijuana is now legal in Ohio, some of the regulations for distribution have not yet been finalized. Until they are, the village will rely on village solicitor Mark Perlaky for direction as issues arise.

Reports to council

Council President Joe Bourne said the fire department answered three calls during August: a brush fire, a fire alarm and an auto accident.

Council member Brandi Bourne said a date has been set for the next Delaware Fire Department breakfast, but it is contingent upon securing enough volunteers to hold the event on Sept. 14 from 8-11 a.m.

Fiscal officer Darissa Lute said a hearing on the 2025 budget will be held at the beginning of the next regular council meeting on Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. Hearings are open to the public. Lute also reminded council all members are required to take the state fraud prevention course before the end of September.

Street Supervisor Rick Swiger reported black top and fill has been added behind the post office. Swiger also said a missing 25 mph sign was replaced near the cemetery. Swiger expressed gratitude to Joe Bourne, Mayor Tom Gardner and council member Ed Steffek for trimming trees by the school.

Council voted to hold trick or treat on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 5:30-7 p.m.

Port Washington Village Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Village Hall. All meetings are open to the public.
