Port Washington Council passes a stronger cleanup ordinance Oct. 1

At the Oct. 1 meeting of Port Washington Village Council, an 11-year-old litter ordinance was amended and updated by unanimous vote. The new ordinance gives the ordinance more teeth when it comes to both language and enforcement.
Mayor Tom Garner said property owners with excess trash on their properties deemed detrimental to public health will receive a verbal warning from the police for a first offense. If the situation is not remedied, certified letters will be send for second and third offenses. After that, court action can be taken.
