Playground options for new park presented to council

At the Dec. 14 meeting of Mineral City Council, Rick Cain presented options he would like to pursue to outfit the playground at the new park being built. Councilman Cain is the chair of the parks and recreation committee.
The new park is being funded entirely by grant money, and Cain said he is applying for grants to cover the playground equipment as well. The playground option Cain favors includes large jungle gym type equipment and swings. The initial cost estimate from Playground Boss is $39,010.
The condition of the existing fence at the playground site was discussed. Because no one from the village had shown any interest in using the fence or its components, council agreed it should be scrapped.
Mayor’s report
Mayor Laurie Green presented the idea of developing a leaf pickup operation for residents, asking street supervisor Sam Moore to look into it further. Moore agreed to do so and said he also would explore the possibility of borrowing the necessary equipment from other villages that conduct leaf pickup.
Green reported on the LoveTusc sculpture for the village, saying $870 is needed in order to complete the project and bring it to the village. A downloadable donation form is available on the homepage of the village website at www.mineralcityoh.org for those who wish to donate.
Green also announced there will be a grand opening for the new Tusky Valley High School auditorium on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 1 p.m.
Fundraiser for Mosely family a success
Green said the fundraiser held at TV Tavern for the Wyatt Mosely family was a big success. Amy Watson, one of the organizers, said an estimated 1,000 people attended during the eight-hour event that featured live music from several local bands, a pasta dinner and several raffles.
