Pawsitive impact: Bow Wow Ball proceeds help dogs

Not all dogs are fortunate enough to have a loving home. Through volunteerism and fundraising, the Wayne County Dog Shelter provides temporary housing and medical care to all stray, abandoned, neglected and injured dogs in Wayne County and reunites lost dogs with their owners.
To raise funds to continue its mission, the shelter, in conjunction with Promoting Animal Welfare for the Shelter, will hold its annual semiformal Bow Wow Ball — a night of dancing, dinner, auctions and more — on Feb. 10 at the Greystone Event Center in Wooster from 5-10 p.m. The cost is $65 per single admission and $450 for a table of eight. “A team of dedicated individuals works tirelessly to provide a safe haven for homeless dogs,” said Katelyn Lehman, dog shelter director and dog warden. “Our mission goes beyond simply rescuing and rehoming these furry companions; they strive to create a positive impact that ripples throughout the community. Doing that takes funding, and the PAWS annual Bow Wow Ball is our largest fundraiser of the year.”
The Wayne County Dog Shelter often cares for dogs that require specialized care including veterinary treatment, physical therapy and emotional support to restore them to good health. Qualified shelter staff members assess various factors to determine a successful diagnosis and chart a path to recovery.
“Every dollar raised at the Bow Wow Ball will go to the medical fund,” Lehman said. “Funds from this event will impact each dog that passes through the shelter on its way to its forever home.”
