Parking Lot Jam expects big crowd in its fourth year

New Creation Fellowship is presenting its fourth annual Parking Lot Jam in Kidron on Saturday, June 6. “I would like to see it as an event that the community looks forward to,” said pastor Ken Wengerd, “as our church loves on people.” The church is a small group of about 55 believers who come together to worship God on Sunday mornings, but their goal isn’t just to hear the Word of God, but also to go out into the highways and byways and be Jesus to people. “Isn’t that what it is all about?” Wengerd said.Wengerd was raised in a Mennonite home, but said he became a prodigal during his teenage years. But God was merciful, he said, and brought him back in a powerful way. Sensing God was calling him to more, Wengerd decided to attend Rosedale Bible College in southern Ohio. He then returned to the Wayne County area and assisted in pastoring another church, but was asked to help with the group of believers at New Creation Fellowship. The fellowship, now in its 10th year of existence, focuses on living the life they believe Jesus wants them to live. “It is relationship with Jesus, then relationship with others,” Wengerd said. “God led all the way to where I am now. Even this Parking Lot Jam event was a suggestion from another believer from Virginia.”Although it is only in its fourth year, attendance at the Parking Lot Jam is remarkable, with 350-400 people in the past and 450 expected to attend this year. It will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, loaded nachos, coleslaw, ice cream and beverages. There will also be games for the children, mini-train rides and a bouncy house. There is no charge for anything, though attendees are asked to bring lawn chairs.Along with the refreshments, there will be live musical groups such as the New Creation Fellowship worship team, the Grace Mennonite worship team and a local group from Fredericksburg called the Polen Band. This band will close out the night with upbeat worship music. An illusionist will bring a distinctive treat to the evening and will perform before the Polen Band finishes out the night. A special ministry will also be shared, called Para Los Niños or For the Children, a ministry that helps children in Nicaragua. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. at Riceland Flow Care, 875 Kidron Road, a half-mile south of U.S. Route 30.
