Our house has a spring cold
Our house has come down with a cold, not the human kind that involves sniffles and sneezes, but the house kind called chilly. This time of year when winter is waning and spring is trying to establish herself, houses feel uncomfortably chilly. Im told this happens because the humidity in a dwelling gets low and the dry air feels colder; however, it happens and is most uncomfortable. One day last week we had a relatively warmer day, but our poor house felt chilly. Turns out our ancient humidifier had gone into motor arrest and died. With springs promises of her eminent arrival we arent anxious to invest in a new humidifier when the dehumidifier is poised to get to work any day now. But the static electricity caused by the very dry air is beginning to get annoying. Kissing my Taller Half has turned into a painfully shocking experience. So we face making an agonizing decision to spend money or find an alternative. One such alternative is keeping lots of houseplants well-watered, which can help with keeping the air moist and the temperature a lot more livable. And our house boasts lots of indoor plants. We just have to remember to keep them watered for best results.Another trick is to place bowls of water in strategic areas to add moisture to the air. Unfortunately bowls of water have been known to be knocked over by careless folks. And a careless folk did just that a few days ago.Water sloshed all over a table, a phone, a book, a tablet and settled into the carpet. Mopping up wasnt easy, but my Taller Half was able to rescue without damaging the table, the phone, the tablet and most of the book. The carpet is still drying. I, being the perpetrator, was banished from the scene and sent out to shop for a humidifier.
