Orrville Public Library spring plant exchange is May 4
Bring your healthy portable plants, bulbs or tubers to share with others at the Orrville Public Library’s spring plant exchange on Saturday, May 4.

Orrville Public Library will host its spring plant exchange on Saturday, May 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Bring healthy portable plants, bulbs or tubers to share with others. Label your donation with what type of plant and whether it prefers sun or shade.

Don’t have anything to donate? Come anyway to possibly find something new for your garden. Master Gardener Ann McPeek also will be on hand to answer plant-related questions.

Kindergarten readiness

Do you have a soon-to-be kindergartner in your house? Orrville Public Library’s Ready to Learn program will help them get ready to begin school. Attendees will be able to participate in free activities that focus on learning numbers and letters and developing scissor skills.

Each child attending this free event on Monday, May 13 at 6 or 7 p.m. will receive a picture book and kindergarten-readiness activities for practice at home over the summer. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

Registration will begin Monday, April 29 and can be completed online by clicking the program title on the library website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us. Registration also can be made by calling the children’s department at 330-683-1065. Class sizes are limited.

Cookbook Club

“Good Eats 4: The Final Years” is Orrville Public Library’s May Cookbook Club selection. Award winner Alton Brown returns with the fourth and final edition in the “Good Eats” series of cookbooks. You will find such recipes as broiled butterfried chicken, bagels from scratch, gluten-free cornmeal pancakes and chocolate mocha refrigerator cake.

Pick up a copy of the cookbook at the circulation desk and plan to come to the 6 p.m. meeting on Monday, May 6. Prepare a dish or two to share with others. No registration is necessary.

May Book Club

“Things in Jars” by Jess Kidd is Orrville Public Library’s May Book Club selection. In the dark underbelly of Victorian London, female detective Bridie Devine searches for a kidnapped girl, Christabel Berwick. Christabel reportedly has supernatural powers that have caught the unwanted attention of unsavory characters.

Check out a copy of the book and plan to come to the book club on Thursday, May 9 to share your thoughts. Come to either the 10 a.m. or the 6:30 p.m. gathering. No registration is needed.

Mother’s Day Story Time

Children age 3-5 are invited to celebrate their mom with a special story time at Orrville Public Library on Monday, May 6. Kids will sing songs, hear stories and make a craft for Mom. There are three time slots to choose from: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. or 6 p.m.
