Ohio School Report Card report given at BOE meeting

Julie Weyandt, Fairless Local Schools curriculum director, gave a report about the 2023-24 Ohio School Report Card during the Sept. 17 board meeting. Fairless received a four star overall rating district-wide. The elementary received five stars, the high school four stars and the middle school three stars.
In the achievement area, the district met state standards in academic achievement. For progress the district met student growth expectations, significantly exceeded state standards in graduation rates, exceeded state standards in early literacy grades of kindergarten to third grade, and received a 76.6% in college, career, workforce and military readiness for students who were ready.
“Last year the third-grade classes were split, so two teachers taught reading, two teachers taught math, and the remaining teachers shared science and social studies,” Superintendent Michael Hearn said.
Hearn said third-grade reading proficiency improved to 71.8%, and promotion to the fourth grade was 100% after the change in the third-grade studies.
