Ohio author Brandon Weis will speak at the Dover Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. about his book, “This Is Gonna Hurt: Hiking 8,000 Miles in One Year.”

In 2021 Weis decided he would attempt to hike three major trails in one year — Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail and Arizona Trail. When he set out on his journey to hike the Triple Crown in a year, only 10 people had ever done it, but that didn’t deter him. He carried a backpack of 20-30 pounds for over 8,000 miles in the dead of winter at -20 F through the scorching summer of 111 F. Through frostbite, injury, sheer exhaustion and more, he endured. Weis will show slides of America’s most beautiful and rugged landscapes. A book-signing will follow the program.

Weis is from a small town in Northwest Ohio and graduated from the Ohio State University in 2020 with a degree in finance and history. After college he backpacked 15,000 miles over a two-year time frame. He now works in real estate in Lima, Ohio.

This program will be held in the community room at the DPL, 525 N. Walnut St., Dover. Register online at www.doverlibrary.org/events or call the library at 330-343-6123.
