Nominations open for ACWHCC awards

The Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center JVSD is taking nominations for the Merle C. Plank Outstanding Alumni Award and the Pentagon Award. The deadline for nominations is March 28.

Pentagon Award

The Pentagon Award is for contributions to the career center, and nominees can be in three categories:

—Support: advisory committee members, employers of ACWHCC graduates, employers making donations (financial, equipment, time), apprenticeship partners, volunteers and individuals contributing to positive public relations.

—Staff (current or past): candidates demonstrating excellence in professional activities beyond the parameters of their job, evidence of exceptional service to ACWHCC, a positive attitude about and promotion of ACWHCC, leadership, and extraordinary commitment.

—Students (current): candidates demonstrating achievements, positive leadership, good academic standing (B and above) and community service. To be eligible, a student must have all the listed characteristics.

Nominees will be judged on the degree to which services/actions have made a significant difference and a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact at the ACWHCC; the length and degree of nominee’s service; the extent to which nominee’s service or action might be considered to have made significant contributions to the ACWHCC through time, actions, talent, dedication and service above and beyond the call of duty; and the extent to which action would serve as a role model and be recognized and valued by peers/school administrators/community.

In nominating, also provide a supporting statement addressing how the candidate has met the criteria for selection for the Pentagon Award, as well as evidence addressing how the candidate has met all of the judging criteria for the Pentagon Award.

Merle C. Plank Outstanding Alumni Award

The Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center Merle C. Plank Outstanding Alumni Award has been established as a means of recognizing those graduates who have significant contributions to their community and by their success in the world of work.

The award is limited to those persons who have been graduated from high school for at least five years. This year’s group will be those who graduated between the years of 1974 and 2018. Each candidate must have a nomination form completed and returned to the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center by the deadline. If preferred, a letter giving the same information may be substituted for the form.

Nominations will be accepted from area employers, the community, present or retired career center staff members, participating school staff members, or alumni.

Nominations should include the nominee’s name, phone number, home address, trade area, place of employment, year of graduation and trade instructors.

To nominate someone, be as frank and clear as possible. Attach additional sheets, references and clippings as you wish. Include the following:

—Work/employment: work history, areas of above-average success or personal growth, and briefly describe the nominee’s job/positional duties.

—Community involvement: service groups, charitable activities, volunteerism and leadership in these areas.

—Activities since graduation: trade, technical schools, college or employer-based training, and awards or recognition received.

—Personal qualities/family data: qualities that set this person aside from others.

—Other items you feel important about this person.

To be considered for either award, send a completed nomination form and a recent photo of the nominee to the Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center, Attn: Vicki Loucks, superintendent’s secretary, 1783 state Route 60, Ashland, OH 44805. You also may email loucksv@acwhcc.org.
