NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties' 17th annual Walk and 5k for Wellness at Secrest Welcome and Education Center at the Ohio State University in Wooster welcomed over 400 participants, 32 teams and 56 business sponsors in support of NAMI and its mental health support and education programs. Over $96,000 was raised to contribute to free services for local families affected by mental illness.

The event offered contests and prizes to attract both in-person and virtual audiences. The Largest Team was awarded to the Western Reserve Group with 49 participants. People walked or ran in Ohio, Florida, Idaho, Pennsylvania and Virginia, but the winners of the Farthest from 44691 contest were Jeff Buchmiller and Ami Doty from Weatherford, Texas. The Most Decorated Team went to the There’s No Place Like Holmes team from the Holmes County Courthouse.

The top fundraising teams were Jon’s Squad (first place), The Country Girls (second place) and The Mighty MOCAN’s (third place). The winner of the quilt raffle was Linda Kirchhofer. Many other participants won door prizes donated by local businesses and friends of NAMI.

NAMI Wayne Holmes would like to thank Steve and Chris Matthew, 2024 honorary chairs, for their leadership of the committee in planning the Walk and 5k for Wellness. The Matthews and their family and friends stretched their influence and resources to bring more awareness to mental health in the community.

NAMI Wayne Holmes also extends its gratitude to all who donated, volunteered and participated this year.

NAMI Wayne and Holmes Counties’ services include mental health education, support groups, the MOCA House Recovery Program, CIT training for law enforcement and support for people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
