Moore appointed to township zoning commission

At the Jan. 25 meeting of the Lawrence Township Board of Trustees, Nikki Moore was appointed by unanimous vote to serve as alternate on the township’s zoning commission. The zoning commission is responsible for developing and maintaining all land-use regulations within the township, subject to the approval of the board of trustees.
In other business trustees approved paying salary and bills in the amount of $19,537.
The trustees agreed to move the Feb. 8 meeting to Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. due to trustees attending the Ohio Township Association annual meeting in Columbus Feb. 7-9.
Perry Myers reported receiving a quote of $45,375 from Ace Truck Equipment for the bed and necessary equipment to complete the new Ford F550 truck previously ordered. Trustees voted to approve the quote from Ace Truck Equipment.
The truck purchase was previously approved by trustees at the Nov. 30 meeting, with a purchase price of $67 from Sarchione Ford in Waynesburg and costs for the main truck coming from the 2023 budget.
Zoning inspector Ron Weekley told trustees the Sleep Inn pole sign has been removed. It was the last large pole sign remaining to be taken down in the township, and trustees thanked the owner and management for the significant aesthetic improvement.
Martina Mann, administrative assistant, provided trustees with election dates in 2024 when Township Hall will be used as a polling location. Those dates are March 19, June 11 and Nov. 5.
Mann also reported having submitted a grant application for a generator package and updated LED lighting for outside the township building. Both purchases were discussed at previous meetings and were recommended by Road Superintendent Chuck McNutt.
Fire Chief Shawn Lynch advised trustees of the need for repairs to an ambulance and a fire truck. Lynch did not provide any further details at the time.
Spaghetti dinner fundraiser
Trustee Don Ackerman invited the public to a spaghetti dinner at the Bolivar Sportsman’s Club on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 4-8 p.m. Ackerman said it is a donation-only event to benefit the families impacted by the November Tusky Valley charter bus accident.
The next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. The regular schedule of meetings every second and last Thursday of the month will resume with the Feb. 29 meeting at 7 p.m. All meetings take place at the Charles E. Lundenberger Hall, 10867 Industrial Parkway NW, Bolivar, and are open to the public.
