Mohican Community Theatre auditions upcoming
Mohican Community Theatre in Loudonville has announced auditions for its summer musical, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
“We are very excited to be doing such a classic and recognizable show,” said Marissa Burd, director. “We have been fortunate to have amazing local talent, but over the last couple years, we’ve been looking to expand our search to get new cast and crew to join our small community theater.”
Auditions for Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will be open for adult performers and young performers who are currently in grades 6-12. Mohican Community Theatre maintains a policy of equal opportunity casting.
Auditions will be held in person on Monday, March 27 and Tuesday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. Only one night is necessary to attend, and callbacks will be held Wednesday, March 29 if needed. An audition packet with full audition information can be found at www.theohiotheatre.com. Rehearsals will start April 10 with performances June 16-18 and June 24-26.
Mohican Community Theatre works under the nonprofit Loudonville Theatre and Arts Committee and is located at Ohio Theatre, 156 N. Water St., Loudonville.
With its most recent productions of “Shrek” and “Little Shop of Horrors,” Mohican Community Theatre has tackled shows with larger casts. In the last seven years, the group has been able to modernize its systems with the new purchase of two projectors, a sound system, a microphone system and a lighting system.
“For ‘Shrek’ last June, we had one of the largest casts we’ve ever had since our foundation in 2015,” Burd said. “For ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ this month, we had an amazing crew that built four different plant pods, two of which were puppets, one that a person sat in to move and another larger one that actors could slide into when they were eaten by the plant.
“Even though we are small, we’ve been able to put on extraordinary productions, thanks to the talent of our casts and crews. However, as much as we’ve been able to accomplish, we are still, in fact, small. We are trying to reach out to students at surrounding colleges and adults, especially men, in the bigger cities that are 20-30 minutes away and invite them to get involved. To continue, we need to grow our membership.”
