Millersburg Council meets, discusses pot possibilities

During the Nov. 13 Millersburg Village Council meeting, the topic of the passage of legalization of recreational marijuana in Ohio and whether Millersburg could be a potential location for a dispensary was broached. The topic was revisited during the Nov. 27 council meeting.
Village solicitor Bob Hines said Ordinance 2017-102, passed Feb. 13, 2017, prohibits medical marijuana cultivators, processors or retail dispensaries within Millersburg. He said the ordinance technically refers to only medical marijuana, so it does not prohibit recreational marijuana dispensaries. Hines said it would make the most sense to repeal that ordinance if at some point Millersburg wants to pursue having a dispensary.
Hines said the monetary benefit to municipalities with dispensaries is not yet known, as Ohio has not released how tax revenue will be distributed.
