Millersburg council awards landscaping bid

Millersburg Village Council held a regular meeting on Nov. 25.

Several items were discussed during the meeting:

—The design/review board will meet Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. to review COA applications from Main Street Bank for signage, Millersburg Dental for an addition and Millersburg Christian Church for its new building project. The planning and zoning commission also will meet Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m. to review the site plan and variance applications from Millersburg Christian Church and a rezoning request from Brodie DeHass for two vacant lots he owns on Koch Street.

—The sidewalk project that is going on right now will continue as the weather permits.

—Leaf pickup for unbagged leaves is over. The village will continue to collect bagged leaves.

—The village received one bid for village solicitor, and council voted to renew solicitor Bob Hines’ contract.

—There were two landscaping bids, which were vastly different in price. Council awarded the bid to Grasshopper.

—Mayor Kelly Hoffee was contacted about putting a streetlight on Close Street as there are currently no streetlights there. Because of the position of a tree, AEP gave the village an estimate of $6,000 for one streetlight. Council decided to wait on this until next year and asked Village Administrator Nate Troyer to look around town to see if other places need streetlights, and maybe the village can make this an ongoing project.

—Letters have been sent out to the Millersburg Mobile Home Park ownership and various residents throughout the village regarding picking up trash in their yards and around their homes.

—Village employees and council will order Village of Millersburg apparel. They will pay for this themselves.

—The two Merry Millersburg window contest winners were congratulated. New Towne Gallery was the winner of the People’s Choice, and Modern Farmhouse was the winner of the Judge’s Choice. A thank you was given to Taylor Sigler, Mark Boley, Dale Obringer and all the volunteers who helped to make Merry Millersburg, the chocolate walk and the tree lighting a success.

—Dave Schrock came to council to suggest the downtown berry trees be replaced and trimmed while they are dormant. He said the berries are getting all over, and the trees are growing into the sidewalks, out onto the street and making everything a mess. He suggested Tree City reach out to the OARDC to find better options for trees downtown.

—Council discussed appropriations, and Pat Mellor came to council to discuss the street department trucks and what their future plan is.

—Hoffee and Megan Stryker are working on an I Spy Millersburg Christmas Decoration game. On Dec. 1 a list will be put out of unique Christmas decorations that families can drive around the village and search for. This will be a free thing residents can do with their children. Village residents with unique Christmas decorations outside can email Hoffee at Kelly.hoffee@millersburgohio.com so their decorations can be added to the list.

—Council will next meet for a regular meeting on Dec. 9.
