Millersburg Council approves bid for resurfacing project

Millersburg Village Council held a regular meeting in the Council Chambers on Feb. 26.
Several items of note took place during the meeting.
Resurfacing project
Village administrator Nate Troyer said the bid opening was held Feb. 16, and two bids were submitted. The engineer’s estimate was $204,733.99. Melway Paving’s bid was $168,145, and Kingsway Services’ bid was $176,850.42.
Troyer said they reviewed all the bid submittals and are recommending awarding the contract to Melway Paving. Council then approved a motion to award the bid to Melway Paving.
Tree planting
Troyer said this year marks the 75th anniversary of ODNR, and to celebrate, ODNR is planting a tree in each county. He said ODNR selected Millersburg for the Holmes County location, so he will meet with ODNR to determine a location at one of the village’s parks.
Amphitheater turf project
Troyer said Totally Outdoors finished the turf project during the week of Feb. 26.
Body armor grant
Millersburg Police Chief Matt Shaner said he applied for the body armor grant through workers’ comp. He said the grant application was approved for $7,910, leaving the police department’s cost at $2,636. He said vests have been ordered for all full-time police officers.
Shaner said the Peace Officer’s Memorial Service had been suspended since COVID-19 hit in 2020, but it will be brought back and celebrated on Friday, May 17 at 2 p.m. He said plans are currently being made for the service.
