Miller votes to advance farm bill out of committee

On May 24, U.S. Congressman Max Miller (OH-07) voted to pass the Farm, Food and National Security Act of 2024 out of the House Agriculture Committee. The updated Farm Bill had a bipartisan vote of 33-21.

“Passing a Farm Bill that works for both our agriculture industry and consumers has been one of my top priorities in Congress,” Miller said. “I’m grateful for chairman Glenn Thompson’s leadership in bringing this bill forward with broad input from members of the committee and stakeholders and for my colleagues, who have worked together to make sure that this is a strong bill for Ohio and for our nation.”

During Thursday’s markup, Miller passed an amendment to the bill that would add provisions from his Farm to Fly Act. The amendment was adopted by voice vote. Miller also highlighted work Ohio State University is doing, including at the Wooster campus, to strengthen agriculture production by improving technology and innovation.

Miller worked with his Agriculture Advisory Council, comprised of farm leaders from Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District, on crafting his priorities for the Farm Bill, many of which were included in the bill during Thursday’s markup. These include improving the farm safety net and crop insurance, expanding trade opportunities, supporting animal health, encouraging training and nutrition, and making food more affordable for Americans.

Additional legislative initiatives spearheaded by Miller in the bill include the following:

—Food Supply Chain Capacity and Resiliency Act, which will strengthen the food supply chain and make food more affordable for consumers.

—Mechanization and Automation Accelerated Research Act, which promotes advanced technologies for more efficient agriculture production.

—Training and Nutrition Stability Act, which will incentivize people who are eligible for SNAP benefits to take advantage of workforce training programs.

—Farm to Fly Act, which will bolster American energy resources.

Miller represents Ohio’s Seventh District, which includes Medina and Wayne counties and parts of Cuyahoga and Holmes counties.
