Mentors provided job shadowing opportunities

Buckeye Career Center announced the completion of this school year’s Career Explorations Mentorship Bridge Program, designed to support local students in BCC’s partner schools by connecting them to mentors from area businesses.
The Career Explorations Mentorship Bridge Program was developed by BCC several years ago, with the aim of guiding students in their career exploration journey and fostering positive community engagement between schools and local businesses. Throughout the program mentors meet with students regularly, providing guidance and facilitating various career exploration activities within the community.
This year’s mentors included Garry Sears from Eleet Cryogenics, Mike Lauber from Tusco MFG, Dave Miller from Gradall Industries and Patrice Yacko from Dover Chemical. Each mentor worked with a liaison from participating schools to arrange the mentorship experiences with selected students. Liaisons included Greg Dickerhoof from Tusky Valley, Polly Stark from Indian Valley, Josh Jarvis from New Philadelphia and Lindsey Tidrick from Dover.
Dave Aubihl, special education coordinator at BCC and Bridge Program organizer, said the mentors provided job shadowing opportunities and OhioMeansJobs career information activities and helped students develop soft skills.
“Once connected with the school, the mentors met with students on a regular basis to provide guidance and career exploration activities within the community,” Aubihl said. “The goal of this program is to help students narrow their focus on career choices while also initiating positive community engagement between the schools and surrounding businesses.”
In recognition of the efforts of all involved, BCC held a luncheon to celebrate the completion of this year’s Career Explorations Mentorship Bridge Program on May 15. Each attendee was treated to lunch at Buckeye Career Center. Anyone interested in becoming a mentor next school year should call or email Aubihl at 330-339-2288 or daubihl@buckeyecareercenter.org.
