The Navarre Bethlehem Township Historical Society held its first meeting of 2024 with its new President Tom Diehl on March 13. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month.

A membership drive is in process for this year. If you have not been a member and would like to join and support the effort of keeping the history of Navarre and the surrounding areas, call 330-879-5938.

The group meets from 9-11:30 a.m. to access items that were donated, set up the museums for displays and any other work that needs done. Anyone who would like to donate 2 1/2 hours to assist is welcome.

The village garage sale will be held May 16, 17 and 18 this year. It is the largest fundraiser of the year. If you have any items you would like to donate, leave a message on the phone or drop them off on a Wednesday morning at the education building behind the Mathews Museum. No clothing is accepted.

The museums are open to the public from June 1 through Nov. 1 from 9-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays or by appointment. You can make arrangements by calling and leaving a message.

Aluminum cans were donated and help pay utility bills on the three buildings the group maintains. The blue barrels beside the education barn are for clean aluminum cans only.

“It is a lot of work to keep these buildings in shape for the public to enjoy the items we have from their ancestors and the history of our past,” said Shirley Conkle, society secretary. “We are going to need roofs on two of our buildings in the near future.”
