A family plan to bring peace and calm to an otherwise stressful season has gained a few extra volunteers for the 2023 event at Dover City Park. The Dover Community Parks Foundation will assist the McFadden family tradition of lighting up the park for a two weekend nights this year. The event is in its third year.

Luminaries in the Park offers a quiet retreat to walk and enjoy Dover City Park surrounded by soft candle light and soft music. The event is free and open to the public. Two dates are offered this year for the community’s convenience. Saturday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The area near and around the pond will be illuminated. “It is intentionally designed to be a quiet retreat in a peaceful setting,” said John McFadden, board member of the Dover Community Parks Foundation.

While the event is free participants can bring a canned food item for the local food pantry if able. Hot cocoa and information on a snowman themed search game for young children will be available at the hot cocoa table near the pond.

“Our Dover Community Parks Foundation is committed to giving back to our community,” said Board President Doug Peterman. “It is important that we look at the natural beauty of our park, enjoy it and continue to improve upon it as a natural resource. Luminaries in the Park is a perfect example of this.

The Dover Community Parks Foundation is an official 501(c)3 and can be found on Facebook. If you would like more information about upcoming events for 2024 follow the group there. You are also welcome to reach out to any board member.
