Summer reading program
Sign-up will begin Monday, June 3 for the summer reading program, which will run from June 3 to July 13. Babies to seniors can enjoy a summer filled with reading, programs, fun and prizes.
Summer food service
Kids age 0-18 can have a free, nutritious lunch served at the library while supplies last Mondays through Fridays, June 3 to Aug. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. The lunches are provided by the Ohio Department of Education and The Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Summer reading kickoff
Join the library for a family night and sign up for its summer reading program on Monday, June 3 from 5-7 p.m. The library will have inflatable obstacle courses, yard games, bubbles and more. Food trucks also will be available.
Story time
Story time, an interactive program for age 2-5 that includes storytelling, songs, fingerplays and crafts, will be Tuesdays, June 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 11 a.m. Caregivers must be present, and younger siblings are welcome to attend.
Library ninja warrior
Sharpen your ninja skills with a series of timed challenges in Central Park to determine the winning team on Thursday, June 6 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for first grade through fifth grade and 1:30-2:30 p.m. for sixth grade through 12th grade. Permission slips and sign-up are required. Space is limited.
Superhero party
Join the library for games, crafts, cupcakes and a chance to spot your favorite hero on Monday, June 10 from 6-7 p.m. Don’t forget to wear your superhero attire.
Pinterest power
Adults will make a set of alcohol ink coasters on Tuesday, June 11 at 6:30 p.m. or Wednesday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. The classes are limited to 12 spots. Registration is required. A sample will be displayed in the library and posted on its Facebook page.
Marvel day
Celebrate all things Marvel at the library on Thursday, June 13 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for first grade through fifth grade and 1:30-2:30 p.m. for sixth grade through 12th grade. There will be some trivia, snacks, make-your-own buttons and prizes. Sign-up is required, and space is limited.
Whiz Bang Science Show
Join Dr. Dave for an adventure in the woods as he explores the science of survival on Wednesday, June 19 at 6 p.m. The Whiz Bang Science Show features demonstrations and activities to try at home.
Books and beverages
First grade through fifth grade will get a freshly made smoothie at the library while discussing their favorite books with friends before browsing the library’s collection and finding their next book on Thursday, June 20 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sign-up is required. Space is limited.
Sixth grade through 12th grade will walk with library staff to Stella’s Ice Cream Shoppe and Coffee House, where they will discuss their favorite reads and get a beverage on Thursday, June 20 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. After exchanging their favorite titles, they will browse the library’s collection and find their next book. Permission slips and sign-up are required. Space is limited.
Adult book discussion
The discussion about “Remarkably Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt will take place in the Golden Center on Friday, June 21 at 11 a.m. The book can be picked up at the circulation desk a month before the discussion date.
Ohio haunts adventure
Join Karlo Zuzic on an adventure through the haunts in Ohio on Saturday, June 22 at 1 p.m. With over 400 investigations, ORBS has been featured in the news and on TV channels.
Ohio nature education
Join the library for a presentation of Animals We Love to Hate on Monday, June 24 at 6:30 p.m. This program will feature animals most often feared and disliked such as bats, spiders, snakes and opossums. The library will dispel myths and include natural history facts that show how beneficial these animals are. The program will include live animals.
Macrame and mocktails
Adults will make a macrame hanging jar while getting a mocktail on Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. Sign-up is required. The event is limited to 14 spots.
Coaster POV fun
First grade through eighth grade will go on a virtual field trip to an amusement park on Thursday, June 27 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. They will explore roller coasters, get snacks and experience front-row thrills on some of the world’s best coasters. Sign-up is required with a limit of 20 spots.
Coaster STEM challenge
Fourth grade through 12th grade will join with friends to build the ultimate K’NEX roller coaster and get snacks on Thursday, June 27 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sign-up is required. Space is limited.
