January is Braille Literacy Month
During January, stop into the library and check out a selection of print/Braille books that feature print and Braille so everyone can participate. Try your hand at reading Braille and explore the tactile world of embossed books.
Winter Reading Challenge
On wintry days adults and children are encouraged to stay warm while reading a good book. Adults are challenged to read at least five books during the winter challenge, which will run from Jan. 2 to Feb. 29. Pick up a bookmark and read anything you like. Complete as many bookmarks as you can. Each bookmark enters you into a drawing for a variety of prizes. Children can complete a bookmark by reading five books to be entered into a prize drawing for four tickets to The Ohio Theater. Complete as many as you like.
Story time
Story time will be Tuesdays, Jan. 2, 9, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. for age 2-5 with stories, songs, finger plays and weekly crafts. Caregivers need to be present, and participants’ younger siblings are encouraged to attend as well.
The Reading Writing Redbird Club
The club will meet Wednesday, Jan. 3 from 3:15-4:15 p.m. Students in kindergarten through third grade are invited to different monthly themed sessions including interactive read-alouds, partner reading, writing to connect with others, games, activities, snack time and more. The event is a collaborative partnership sponsored by L-P Schools, The McParents Association and the Loudonville Public Library. Sign up through the library or McMullen Elementary.
After the Bell
Students in first grade through eighth grade can come to the library for an activity on Thursdays, Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Nailed It! — Harry Potter Theme
Students in sixth grade through 12th grade are invited to join for the library edition of this Netflix show on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 3:30 p.m. Teens will work in teams to recreate Pinterest-worthy creations. The library will provide the supplies. The event is limited to 12 spots. Sign-up is required.
Family Mini Golf
Challenge your family to a game of mini golf on Friday, Jan. 12 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. All ages are welcome.
Family Cake Decorating
Join a local cake decorator on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. in creating different themed 8-inch cakes to take home. The event is limited to 10 families. Sign-up is required.
Teen Cuisine
The event for students in sixth grade through 12th grade will take place Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 3:30 p.m. with a focus on the flavors of Germany. The event is limited to eight spots. Sign-up is required.
Nerf Night
Students in seventh grade through 12th grade are invited to this after-hours event on Friday, Jan. 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. Sign-up and permission slips are required. Participants are responsible for their own Nerf gear.
