Local Roots Market and Cafe, a cooperatively owned establishment featuring seasonal and sustainably focused foods and artisan goods, is gearing up for its fifth annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with vendors starting at 10 a.m.

This year’s bazaar will utilize expanded space in Local Roots’ new building at 146 W. South St., in addition to the current market at 140 S. Walnut St. The added room allows for twice as many vendors as in previous years, as well as new holiday activities.

The event will feature live music, a holiday selfie station and a visit from Santa. Jake Briggs and Colleen Welsch will perform from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the South Street location while Santa is expected to make an appearance from 10 a.m. to noon. Families are welcome to take their own photos with Santa, and kids can share their Christmas wishes with him.

Kate Frichtl, Local Roots community engagement coordinator, emphasized the opportunities the bazaar offers. “With an expanded vendor lineup, you’ll find unique goods you won’t see anywhere else,” she said.

Shoppers can expect an array of items including cookies, cheese, cotton candy, hot sauce, herbs and spices, candles, jewelry, wood crafts, fiber art, stained glass, baked goods, teas, coffees and more. Attendees also will have the chance to meet local artisans featured in the market.

Special meal offerings will enhance the day. Wootown Bagels is making a one-day comeback with its breakfast sandwiches. James Carey, Wootown’s founder, is flying in from the West Coast to join co-owner Paul in the kitchen.

“It promises to be a busy morning, so come early to secure your order,” Frichtl said.

For lunch, Big D’s Soul-B-Q will serve dishes like jerk chicken, NYC chicken, SBQ grilled shrimp, black-eyed pea falafel, and mac and cheese, with kid-friendly options available. Boo Bears Brew will offer its signature drinks and treats at two locations: inside Local Roots and at a pop-up station across the street.

The event includes a raffle featuring a growing basket of locally crafted and value-added items. Last year’s prize was valued at over $450. Tickets are $5 each or three for $12, with proceeds supporting the market’s capital campaign. The drawing will take place mid-afternoon at the bazaar.

Volunteers are welcome to assist with setup and breakdown. Interested individuals can email Frichtl at kate@localrootswooster.com.

“Don’t miss this chance to get a sneak peek of our future location, shop for exclusive gifts and celebrate the season with us,” Frichtl said. “It’s the perfect family outing while supporting small local businesses. We can’t wait to see you there.”
