Libraries offer new book clubs
The Tuscarawas County Public Library System offers 10 book clubs that span its five locations in Bolivar, New Philadelphia, Strasburg, Sugarcreek and Tuscarawas and its mobile services department. The groups meet monthly to discuss a preselected title made available to club members before the meeting. Meetings typically last for about an hour.
“I think it’s in our human nature to gravitate toward settings that provide a sense of community,” said Lacy Bartley, mobile services supervisor. “A book club offers both a place of belonging and an outlet for significant, thought-provoking conversations.”
Bartley, who facilitates the LGBTQ+ Alliance Beyond Book Club, said the library system has added three new book clubs in the past year and brought back a customer favorite that was placed on hold during the pandemic.
The Graphically Read Book Club encourages grades 9-12 to explore the art of storytelling through graphic novels and comics with other group members each month.
The LGBTQ+ Alliance Beyond Book Club focuses on topics related to LGBTQ+ themes and artists.
The Continuous Book Club offers an open written discussion of the monthly book through note cards posted in the branch during the span of the week.
The Cookbook Lunch Club invites all participants to prepare a dish from the same cookbook to share together at their meetings.
