Lehman’s named a best online shop by Newsweek

Lehman’s of Kidron has been named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Online Shops 2024.

The website at www.Lehmans.com helps customers take the next step on their journey to a simpler life with practical products, how-to blogs and videos, and an interactive social media experience.

Lehman’s was founded in 1955 by Jay Lehman to serve the local Amish, who live without electricity. Today Lehman’s ships practical, nonelectric products like oil lamps, wood stoves and water pumps all over the country. They also have a retail store on the square in Kidron that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

“We are very proud to be a recipient of one of Newsweek’s Best Online Shops for 2024,” said Zach Coblentz, president. “We have made some significant changes to our business over the last 12 months to improve the customer experience. This award is further confirmation that we have improved the experience our customers are receiving. We are committed to continue to focus on meeting our customers’ needs in the products and services we provide.”

Lehman’s ranked eighth out of 23 in the General category, beating out Vermont Country Store, Kohl’s, Target, Macy’s and even Amazon.

“The irony of winning this award is that we use high tech to sell low tech,” Coblentz said, noting the number of products they sell online that are nonelectric such as the sun-powered dehydrator or the people-powered push mower. “It is no small task for a small family-owned company to compete with large publicly held companies. At Lehman’s we’re a team that works creatively together in order to bring traditional products to our customers’ simple life.”

This award is presented by Newsweek and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry-ranking provider. The awards list was announced Oct. 11 and can currently be viewed on Newsweek’s website.

America’s Best Online Shops 2024 recipients were identified after passing a number of tests based on 46 objective and subjective criteria. The online shops with the most American visitors and the highest American revenue in 2022 were selected as candidates for further evaluation. The online shops that passed the initial screening were then tested one by one via a nationwide survey of over 6,000 American online shoppers. Survey participants were asked to evaluate online shops on trust and security, structure and usability, payment, purchase and delivery, service and communication, technical details, likelihood of purchase, and traffic growth.

Out of the thousands of online retailers evaluated, the top 1,000 were awarded in eight industries and 39 different categories.
