Knights' fieldhouse addition now under roof

West Holmes Schools is currently in the process of undergoing some major changes, one being the future creation of its kindergarten though grade five school building on the high and middle school campus, but the one addition that looms much closer is the addition to the West Holmes Stadium fieldhouse.
On Monday, Dec. 18, West Holmes school board member Andy Jones reported the addition is now under roof, and that should mean work can now continue throughout the winter.
Jones said he and Eric Jurkovic, West Holmes superintendent, met with the West Holmes Athletic Boosters, Athletic Director Adam Brately and several coaches recently to discuss the progress of the facility. The meeting included several photographs of the progress and a Q-and-A time.
Fieldhouse construction began several months ago, and Jones said they received several bids from local companies to do work on the complex, companies that dove in and helped get the structure under roof before winter set in.
“We are very excited to get it under roof,” Jones said. “We appreciate all of the hard work that was put into making that happen. This is an exciting step, not only for all of our athletic programs, but for the rest of the school and staff.”
He said they worked hard to manage the cost and make the finest possible facility for the least amount of income.
Jones said that is because the new addition will create a nice place to expand weightlifting facilities and other areas all West Holmes students can utilize.
While it will be nice for all students, Jones said the new facility with the new kindergarten to grade five building on the horizon will present an enticing picture for families looking to relocate into the West Holmes School District.
“In addition to families moving into the area who will be looking at our curriculum and how we fare from an academic basis, we know that they also look at how we fare on an athletic basis and what our facilities look like,” Jones said. “We understand that remains something that people view when moving into a new district, especially because more and more families continue to focus on sports and having their children gain from the benefits of learning to work hard in the sports setting as well as the academic world.”
Jones said the district continues to be focused on creating the best facilities possible for its students, in both the academic and athletic realm, and said developing every possible advantage for students remains at the forefront of their decision-making.
“We have a lot of great things on the horizon at West Holmes, and we as a board are excited about the future and the direction we’re heading,” Jones said.
