King letter to be read aloud

The Dover Public Library will celebrate Black History Month by hosting a public reading of “Letter from Birmingham Jail” on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. penned the words of this letter in 1963 while being held in a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama. He wrote the letter in response to religious leaders who criticized his activism during the Civil Rights Movement.
“I am expecting that people will be moved to read portions of the letter aloud,” said Sherrel Rieger, programming specialist. “But even if you don’t feel comfortable reading, I encourage everyone in the community to come hear these powerful words.”
