Killbuck gearing up for Early American Days

There will be the old standards and some new attractions in Killbuck Aug. 30 through Sept. 2 when the village celebrates 150 years with its annual Early American Days celebration.
The weekend will kick off Friday, Aug. 30 with “Our Town Killbuck,” presented by the Holmes County Historical Society at 7 p.m. at the Duncan Theater. Guests are invited to bring stories and Killbuck historical items to share. The program is free to the public, and seating is first come, first served. For more information call Mark Boley at 330-674-0022 or email director@holmeshistory.com.
Saturday’s events are highlighted by the third annual Fundraiser Pickleball Tournament, with registration at 8:30 a.m. and games starting at 9 a.m. Team entry is $50.
Special events on Sunday, after a 10:30 a.m. church service, include a chicken barbecue at the VFW at noon, a puppet show at the library at 1 p.m. and the grand parade at 2 p.m., followed by antique cars.
Killbuck’s 150th birthday celebration will be at 4 p.m. with guest speakers Congressman Troy Balderson and Holmes County commissioner Dave Hall. During this event past committee members of Early American Days will be honored, a time capsule will be created and a village group photo will be taken, along with cake and ice cream.
Also at 4 p.m. will be the drawing for the gun raffle, drawn by the marshals of the grand parade.
Other activities for the weekend include a 5k and fun walk, a cruise-in car show, a softball tournament, a kiddie tractor pull, Dinoroar, a jump house, and new activities for kids such as a euro jumper, mechanical bull and rock wall. There also will be more shopping vendors this year.
The EAD committee is still looking for arts and crafts vendors, parade entrants, and 5k and walk contestants and also has EAD shirts available for pre-order. Call Erica Ash at 304-488-8440 and she can either answer your questions or direct you to the right person.
