The Friends of the Homeless of Tuscarawas County is conducting a logo contest to coincide with the construction and opening of a new shelter in New Philadelphia.

The Friends of the Homeless is working on the details of the building addition to be constructed immediately behind the current shelter at 211 E. High Ave. in New Philadelphia.

The new facility will honor Friends of the Homeless founder Jack Ream and be known as Jack’s House of Hope. Ream was the driving force behind the creation of the Friends of the Homeless and opening of the shelter in 2005. He is still an active member of the board.

The new logo will be revealed when the Friends of the Homeless unveil the building addition plans this spring.

“We believe the new facility represents a significant step forward for the organization, fills a service gap in our community and is an opportunity to express our belief that Jack’s House of Hope truly creates hope and changes lives for the unhoused and others in our community living on the edge. We are more than a shelter. We are a source of hope,” Friends of the Homeless Executive Director Calvin White said. “This is also an opportunity to honor Jack Ream, a remarkable man with the vision and perseverance that created the Friends of the Homeless.”

The logo contest is open to all individuals.

The new logo should reflect the concept that the Friends of the Homeless is a source of hope for people in the community and assists families and individuals in a faith-based environment to achieve stability, sobriety and permanent housing.

The logo should be an original, simple and clear design using bright colors and include only the name Jack’s House of Hope.

Entries should be submitted on 8.5-by-11-inch paper. The name, email, street address and phone number of the individual submitting the entry should be on the back of the paper only.

All types of entries will be accepted including hand-drawn and computer-aided designs.

The logo selected will become the sole property of the Friends of the Homeless and Jack’s House of Hope.

The winning entry will receive a $400 award and recognition on the Friends of the Homeless webpage, Facebook and local media.

Entries are due by April 1.

Entries should be sent to Friends of the Homeless, 211 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Call White at 330-602-6100.
