Creative writing contest

Share your original poetry or short stories (with or without illustrations) by entering the Holmes County District Public Library’s writing contest beginning Friday, March 1. Prizes will be awarded to the top entry in each category. Submissions are due by Saturday, April 20. Visit the library, the library’s website or call 330-674-5972 for details.

Story times

For kids age 2-5 with an adult, there will be story times at the Killbuck Community Library on Tuesdays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 10:30 a.m.; at the East Branch Library on Wednesdays, March 6, 13, 20 and 27 at 10:30 a.m.; and at the Central Library on Fridays, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 10:30 a.m.

Little Learners Playgroup

Kids up to age 5 with an adult will engage in activities to promote reading and social skills at the Central Library on Fridays, March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 11 a.m. Snacks are provided.

Paws to Read

Children are invited to read to a certified therapy dog from Caring Therapy Canines at the Central Library on Saturday, March 9 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Personal finance 101

Financial adviser Shelby Byland will answer questions and share strategies to get attendees started in reaching their financial goals at the Central Library on Monday, March 11 at 6 p.m. Registration is required.

STEAM program

Children age 10-15 will create a maze for their HEXBUGs to maneuver through and use HEXBUG bots to create art at the Central Library on Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Eclipse quest

Children age 6-12 will learn about the upcoming total solar eclipse through hands-on activities at the Central Library on Thursday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Solar eclipse presentation

The Warren Rupp Observatory will offer a presentation on the upcoming solar eclipse at the Central Library on Tuesday, March 19 at 6 p.m. One pair of eclipse glasses will be provided to each person in attendance. Registration is required.

Family movie day

Disney’s “Wish,” rated PG, will be shown on the big screen at the Central Library on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.

Book discussion for adults

The event will be held Tuesday, March 26 discussing “Canary Girls” by Jennifer Chiaverini at the Central Library at 1 p.m. and “Sisters Under the Rising Sun” by Heather Morris at Jitters Coffee House in Millersburg at 6 p.m. Books are available to borrow at the Central Library.

Picture book putt-putt

Families can participate in a nine-hole mini golf course based on some favorite children’s books at the Central Library on Thursday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The first tee-off time will be at 10 a.m. and the last until 6:15 p.m. Registration is required.
