History of 51st OVI focus of program
The mission of the Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table is to educate the community about the American Civil War, to preserve Civil War heritage and to remember those who struggled for their cause.

The Tuscarawas Valley Civil War Round Table will hold a program on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 2 p.m. in the community room of the Dover Public Library. Civil War historian Trent Johnson will present “The 51st Ohio: Its Men, Movement, Battles and Legacy.”

Johnson’s program will provide a look at the 51st Ohio Volunteer Infantry Civil War regiment from its organization in Dover in 1861 to its discharge in Victoria, Texas in 1865. The talk will include battle details and stories of soldier experiences during the Civil War. Also, the talk will include profiles of some of the more interesting men in the 51st and what they did after the Civil War.

Johnson is a native of Newark, Ohio and a resident of Central Tennessee, an area where much of the movement and battles involving the 51st OVI took place.
