Historian will portray Oskar Schindler
The College Club of Tuscarawas County has partnered with the Dover Public Library to welcome Kenneth Hammontree, founder of Living History Productions, who will portray Oskar Schindler on Wednesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the community room at the library.
Schindler, a German industrialist, is credited with saving the lives of 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his enamelware and ammunition factories.
In 1982 Thomas Keneally wrote “Schindler’s Ark” in order to recognize the sacrifice Schindler had made in order to save his workers.
The film, “Schindler’s List,” was released in 1993. The film, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1994, depicted the life of an opportunist who eventually dedicated his life and wealth to saving his Jewish employees.
Hammontree has always loved history. After graduating from college, he taught American and Ohio history. After realizing many of his students did not share his passion, he decided to make history more exciting and relatable by impersonating historical figures. His favorite characters are George Washington, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and Johnny Appleseed.
“It has been a privilege to work with Mr. Hammontree and Suzanne Warner of the Tuscarawas County College Club,” said Sherrel Rieger, adult program specialist, “to be able to bring this special program to the library.”
