HCHS’s Our Town series heads to Killbuck Aug. 30

The historical march through Holmes County’s many villages and towns continues, and the upcoming presentation in the Our Town series will take visitors on a walk back in time through Killbuck.
The Holmes County Historical Society will delve into the history of a village celebrating its 150th anniversary on Friday, Aug. 30 with a special presentation of Our Town Killbuck, presented at 7 p.m. at the Duncan Theater.
“It’s a lead-in to Early American Days, and we are excited about the Our Town series because it features some of the unique history of many of our local towns and villages,” HCHS board member Melissa Patrick said. “We wanted to feature Killbuck because it is the 150th anniversary, and the board from Killbuck Early American Days liked the idea that we would tie the two events together.”
One of the focal points of the event will touch on the life of local community legend Lucille Lowe, who helped start Early American Days and was involved in the community in many ways.
“She was a fascinating woman who meant a great deal to many people here in Killbuck,” Patrick said.
The event will include plenty of memorabilia that has been collected by the HCHS, as well as a time at the end of the program where the public can ask questions, share stories and bring back plenty of memories surrounding Killbuck.
“Folks love to hear the old stories and reminisce,” Patrick said. “And to make it 150 years is a monumental achievement for any town. There’s plenty of amazing history there, and it’s important to celebrate with the community there.”
Guests are invited to bring stories and Killbuck historical items to share. The program is free to the public, and seating is first come, first served. For more information call Mark Boley at 330-674-0022 or email director@holmeshistory.com.
