The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will host local coach, teacher and author Mike Gunther at the Tuscarawas Main Library on Monday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Gunther’s presentation will focus on his recently published collection of essays titled "Views from the Hot Seat."

The book is a collection of 64 entries written from 2013-22 in chronological order. The retired English teacher and adjunct professor will share his thoughts, opinions and recollections, focusing on topics ranging from high school sports, childhood, education and occasional political observations to personal revelations.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Gunther to our library,” adult and teen services manager Robyn Guedel said. “Many in the community know him from his years of teaching and coaching in Newcomerstown, Strasburg and Dover school districts.”

Gunther spent 44 years teaching students to appreciate the roles of writing and reading in their lives. His 35 years of high school teaching and coaching allowed him to create relationships with students that extended beyond the classroom.

While teaching high school, he and his students wrote a series of six books paying tribute to the area’s Vietnam veterans titled "Vietnam Veterans: The Tuscarawas Valley’s Survivors"and another two-part series paying tribute to area role models titled "We Couldn’t Have Done It Alone."

Gunther was raised in Gnadenhutten and has lived in Dover for more than three decades. He and his wife Anne have two daughters and three grandchildren.

A book sale and signing will follow the presentation. To register for this free program, visit the library’s online registration calendar at www.tusclibrary.org or call 330-364-4474.

The Tuscarawas Main Library is located at 121 Fair Ave. NW in New Philadelphia.
