Greenhands introduced to the world of WHHS FFA

For the West Holmes FFA veteran members, the recent Greenhand event was all about introducing the incoming first-year chapter members to the world of FFA while having a little fun in the process.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, the West Holmes FFA Chapter held its annual Greenhand Lock-In.
Eighteen freshmen were present, including Jenna Brumme, Carmen Burgett, Landrie Croskey, Benjamin Forrer, Steven Grandstaff, Rainbow Haudenschild, Carson Horn, Logan Horn, Colton Leyda, Shane Lorentz, Keston McKinney, Carolyn McMillen, Emberlyn Miller, Emma Mittman, Billy Patten, Dylan Sours, Nate Sprang and Easton Uhl.
Presenters for the event included the West Holmes FFA officer team, which includes Alex Pringle, Maren Drzazga, Andi Schuch, Garrett Fowler, Claire Drzazga, Wyatt Myers, Maison Carter and Quentin Vehrs.
In addition, seniors Laina Croskey, John Maloney, Derek Miller, Grant Miller, Taelor Patterson, Bree Pringle, Torrie Savage, Wyatt Schlauch and Tyler Zimmerly all helped plan and conduct the activities for the night.
At the Lock-In, the group started by playing the game “Name Games.” Members ate pizza from Killbuck Pizza Parlor, and then the seniors shared their favorite FFA memories with the Greenhands.
The seniors and officers educated the freshmen on opportunities in the FFA.
Some of those stations included the importance of being involved, trips/camps, dairy judging/general livestock, job interview/speaking, parliamentary procedure, agricultural sales, leadership, fruit sale, in the classroom, record keeping, official dress and shop/independent study.
They also did some leadership-type games and an FFA trivia bowl. In addition, Greenhands dressed seniors and officers with paper to see who could resemble the official dress the closest based on memory.
After that, the Greenhands played a scavenger hunt game based on FFA facts where they had to find their guides to get the questions.
Greenhand elections were then conducted. The 2022-23 Greenhand officers were elected and are president Shane Lorentz; vice president Emmy Miller; secretary Landrie Croskey; treasurer Cara McMillen; reporter Carson Horn; sentinel Billy Patten; student adviser Keston McKinney; and historian Logan Horn.
Afterward, the group made Greenhand T-shirts, which were hand-painted for them to wear at school on the day of initiation.
Group members also played a lot of different games to keep their energy levels up.
Everyone was released at 7 a.m. to go home and get a good day’s sleep.
