Generosity of community is great but so is the need

During the June 8 and July 11 meetings of its board of directors, the Tuscarawas Society for Children & Adults Inc., better known as the Rainbow Connection, awarded local individuals and schools $105,357.82 in aid.
“At the Rainbow Connection, we’re proud to say that every dollar raised at our annual telethon is returned to Tuscarawas County,” Executive Director Perci Garner said. “The generosity of our community is great, but so is the need. In five months we’ve awarded nearly $212,000 of the $328,000 raised at our telethon. It was a record-breaking year for fundraising, and it’s shaping up to be a record-breaking year of giving as well.
“Since the telethon our donors have installed handicap door switches at the Tuscarawas Public Library buildings. They’ve provided handicap playground equipment to Starlight and the new ADA-compliant train at Tuscora Park. They’ve given hearing aids to five residents and mobility scooters to two more. They’ve paid for more than $100,000 in medical bills, and that’s not to mention the dental work, prescription coverage, medical equipment and so much more that they’ve done. We truly cannot thank our donors enough.”
