Fabulous 50s Fling returns to Sugarcreek June 7-8
Celebrating a bit of nostalgia and just having a bit of fun, Sugarcreek this coming week will host the 33rd renewal of the Fabulous 50s Fling.
Taking place the second weekend of June (June 7-8), rain or shine, the fling will entertain anyone who likes classic cars, live music and entertainment, and good food.
Food this year will be provided by local nonprofit organizations and food trucks. A large tent with tables will be available. Featured performers include the BelAirs on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. doing their renditions of tunes from the “Happy Days” era.
The Fling will open Friday with the cruise-in, an open-class event. Vehicles newer than 1999 are welcome. The cruise-in will start at about 4 p.m. The first 150 cars or so on Friday will receive a dash plaque and special awards from local celebrities or the committee, such as Mayor’s Choice and Chief’s Choice. Spikeman DJ will be onsite from 4-7 p.m.
The Wine Country Cruise, a self-driving tour of five local wineries and wine stores, will begin Friday afternoon at one of the local wineries and end at the car show grounds in Sugarcreek. An optional poker run will be part of those festivities. Poker run sheets must be turned in by 6 p.m. at the show to be eligible for prizes.
Spots in the cruise-in include Silver Moon Winery, Breitenbach Winery, Swiss Heritage Winery, Old Store Winery and Baltic Mill Winery. Each winery will have a deck of cards and mark poker run sheets.
Registration for the Saturday show will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will enter from North Broadway, and cars will be judged on the way into the show. After judging, cars will be directed to the parking area. Awards will be given around 4:30 p.m.
The Saturday show is a professionally judged car show for vehicles 1999 and older. Cars need to be registered by 1 p.m. to be judged.
With close to 500 cars having turned out in previous years, the registration process this year will be streamlined. Simply present your preregistration or pay for registration as you pull down Broadway and into the event area. Cars will be judged before entering the grounds.
Those wanting to park together must enter together. Saving spaces will not be permitted.
Best of Show will receive a $500 cash prize. The top 50 will receive a unique award. Bring your window card with your car number on it to claim your prize. Winners must be present.
A random drawing using car registration numbers will take place for cash prizes of up to $100. The drawing will take place when the other awards are given out.
Cars will be judged by professional judges with no input from the committee. Those not wanting their cars judged can simply let people know at registration.
